Old stock Wavellite, from Mauldin Mountain, Montgomery county, Arkansas, USA.
(Montgomery County quarry / Mauldin Mountain quarry)
Wavellite specimen featuring greyish SiO2 pseudomorphs after Wavellite....these are not Crandallite. X ray testing confirms that the grey pseudomorphs from Mauldin Mountain are SiO2, and Crandallite from Mauldin Mtn. is a general misnomer which has spread across the industry. They are SiO2 though, and collector John Betts has had even more detailed xray testing done which has shown that , more specifically, the type of SiO2 is Opal-CT and Quartz var. Chalcedony. interesting!
