Very unique and rarely seen Lab Grown/Synthetic Quartz from Bell Telephone Laboratories.

This is what was grown by Bell Telecommunications Labs as the source of pure oscillator wafers many decades ago, post WW2.

Free of impurities and w/ excellent optical clarity. You can see on each end, where it was once connected to small pieces of metal, grown off of those, and then "plucked off/harvested". This specimen is unique as it very long, w/ extremely good clarity, top quality, and uncut w/ rich historical provenance via the Bell Lab oscillator/etc era.

This represents a significant milestone in technological advancements made during the post WW2 era, with the development of efficient synthetic quartz growth mechanisms via vacuum tech and heat paired with a seed of natural quartz.

It solved the problem of the existence of impurities in mined natural quartz allowing for the development of absolutely pure oscillator-grade quartz completely free of impurity.

Really amazing piece with a wonderful history. American ingenuity that led to the age of computers, space exploration, and beyond!

Specimen size approx. 20.5 x 2.3 x 1.5 cm
