Rare Green Quartz Crystal, Half Cut/Polished, Saline County, Arkansas, Old Stock
Very Unique and Rare, old stock Green Quartz. This piece was discovered many decades ago by old timer Ray Mcgrew, near the Lake Winona Wilderness in Saline County, Arkansas. Ray was mining for quartz crystals when he and his team came across a shelf of Solid Green Quartz. The green is likely due to Chlorite inclusions, which are found in this region of the Ouachita Mountains. Although this find was unique in that the quartz shelf was uniquely wide and the quartz solid green (normally the chlorite is included in speckles, or in phantom form, rarely solid green. This specific piece came from the contact zone where the green quartz borders white quartz. Ray extracted it, took it home, and cut a slice from the piece , beautifully showing the contact zone.
This is a very unique old stock example from a legend in the industry. The rare times i would finally get to see Ray he would be asleep upright in his chair in his oil covered overalls, using his rare freetime to power nap from working so hard mining and fixing Diesel equipment. One of the hardest workers i have ever met. He also hand forges "Arkansas dig bars" from Iron, and has discovered some of the most significant enhydro crystals in Arkansas history. He once told me of an enhydro crystal he pulled from Montgomery county wilderness that contained a coca-cola's worth of water inside of it. Pretty amazing.
